The course in focus is:
Foundations of Leadership.
This course addresses a number of issues related to leadership that constitute its foundations. By foundation, I understand the very thing a structure is built upon. The following is a brief overview of what I learned and understood throughout the course.
1. A leader should understand that conflicts are part and parcel of life. Leadership will have to deal with conflicts by understanding their nature, sources and styles, and handle them accordingly in a constructive manner.
2. For a leader, failure and risks when properly managed can be doors of opportunities for growth. Failure is not final, and can be a stepping stone into success, and risk can lead to a much greater opportunity as well. Failures, risks and opportunities should be understood as working together to make, not to break a leader’s life and the rights decisions should be made accordingly.
3. Leadership is about collaboration, if it has to be effective enough to produce optimum results. A collaborative mindset is a so much needed attribute of a great leader.
4. Vulnerability and accountability: these two attributes are essential in leadership;they help build and strengthen trust within the team. They are more to impact rather than impress.
5. The ultimate goal of leadership in a Christian context is discipleship. They are so many modalities to empower/equip the team: teaching,training, coaching, mentoring, and of course, discipleship. A leader should know when to apply what and why, in order to ensure proper growth within his team.
6. Because change is part and parcel of life, leadership should be about influencing change, by leading change.Of course,it will also have to do with helping people smoothly transition through those changes.
7. Finally, I maintain a high regard to Dr.Albert Haddad.His teachings ,coupled with his personal experience and expertise make his teachings alive and relevant. He is able to communicate hard issues in a simple, understandable language.
